The Problem

Existing technology was built around the wrong question

Across every sector — personal safety, enterprise protection, digital platforms, child safeguarding, conflict environments — technology has been built to help victims respond. It assumes they can act. It assumes the device is accessible. It assumes the moment of danger permits a visible interaction.

The criminological record contradicts every one of those assumptions. Perpetrators are hypervigilant. They monitor, control, and exploit precisely the mechanisms that existing technology relies upon. Device seizure is documented. Compliance is demanded. Visible action is dangerous.

Castellen Labs inverts the question entirely. We start with the perpetrator — their psychology, their methods, their predictable behaviour — and build technology that turns that behaviour against them.

Criminological Origin

Every system we develop must be rooted in documented, empirical research into criminal behaviour. No mechanism is built from engineering assumption or technological convention alone.

The Absolute Prohibition

No protocol or mechanism we develop may escalate danger, attract perpetrator attention, or contribute to harm or death. This prohibition is total and supersedes all other design considerations.

Structural Independence

Protection cannot depend on the victim being able to act. Our systems operate autonomously — server-side, independent of device state, connectivity, or external conditions.
